Spotlight on Grade 7
In 7th grade we've had some very emotionally moving classes in recent weeks. We completed the watching and discussion of Schindler's List and discussed the impact the holocaust had on sympathetic Germans at the time and their efforts to help the Jewish cause. The students have had some insightful comments and opinions.
We have now started our series about how the war crimes of the holocaust were treated. We've started our viewing of "Judgment at Nuremberg." After the end of World War II, the world gradually became aware of the full extent of the war crimes perpetrated by the Third Reich. In 1948, a series of trials were held in Nuremberg, Germany, by an international tribunal, headed by American legal and military officials, with the intent of bringing to justice those guilty of crimes against humanity. However, by that time most of the major figures of the Nazi regime were either dead or long missing, and in the resulting legal proceedings American judges often found themselves confronting the question of how much responsibility someone held who had "just followed orders."
Part of our discussions will be to discuss concept of guilt by association and how German's felt after the war.

Even better, why not join us next Sunday and linger over a cup of coffee and a bagel at Cafe Or, or some good study in Rabbi Chessin's Tanakh study group (10:30 am)?
