November 4, 2007

November 4, 2007 Religious SchoolWow! It sure is busy here on a Sunday morning. To the untrained eye it might look like chaos but to our staff and students, it looks like passionate learning. Each student is important to us at Temple Beth Or. And each student has their own unique interests and spiritual potential. So we create a special environment that nourishes the body , mind and soul.

I want to thank my teachers for their flexibility and inherent ability to improvise and fill in wherever and whenever needed. It is their efforts that make us as great as we can be.

Any success we have and the joy that your children have on any given Sunday is due to these fine people. Onward chaos and passion!!!

Be well,

Rabbi David Burstein

NFTY Ohio Valley Sub-Regionals - a plea for housing volunteers

Dear 8th through 12th grade parents,

As most of you know, our youth group will be hosting sub-regionals during the weekend of November 16-18.  About 100 teenagers from across Indiana and Ohio will be coming to Dayton for this youth group event called Technolojew: Jews in the modern world.  We will also sponsor social action projects and a Saturday night social program.  It will be a great deal of fun.

For this event to be successful, BOTY needs host families for out of town guests.  Hosting will consist of providing Friday and Saturday night housing, breakfast Saturday morning, and transportation from the event.

High Schoolers that attend the event will make new Jewish friends, and experience a new perspective on Judaism.  By hosting, then your teenager will be able to get to know other Jewish teenagers even better.  Please consider hosting, a housing form is available for download by clicking here.  A meeting will take place with the BOTY advisor AJ Lauber regarding housing on a later date.  If you can help, please complete the form located by clicking here and return to the Temple Beth Or office or please e-mail me at dlgisme@woh.rr.com.

Thank you,
Derek Gutmann
President of BOTY

Bagels & Blocks

In the spirit of Tot Shabbat, we are instituting a new program called Bagels and Blocks that will start on Saturday, November 10th from 10-11:00 am. This service is modeled after our successful family interactive High Holy Days program. It will create a space for families with children to connect to Shabbat in a meaningful and fun way.

Come spend an hour and learn, laugh and find the joy of Shabbat. All ages welcome.

Hanukkah Bazaar

The annual Temple Beth Or Hanukkah Bazaar will be held November 11 and 18 from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm, and Wednesday November 14 from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm. Come shop for menorahs, candles, dreidels, gifts, collectibles with items from various vendors. Note that the religious school shopping day for the bazaar will be November 18.
