October 21 , 2007

1 Hallelujah.

Praise God in His sanctuary;

Praise Him in the sky, His stronghold.

2 Praise Him for His mighty acts;

Praise Him for His exceeding greatness.

3 Praise Him with blasts of the horn;

Praise Him with harp and lyre.

4 Praise Him with timbrel and dance;

Praise Him with lute and pipe.

5 Praise Him with resounding cymbals;

Praise Him with loud-clashing cymbals.

6 Let all that breathes praise the Eternal.

Hallelujah.

These are the words of Psalm 150 and could be used to describe our school. Each Sunday our students are welcomed with music of voice and drum and guitar. The halls resonate with the tunes of Rick Recht, Matisyahu , and Danny Nichols. And on November 11th we will be starting a unique opportunity for any student who is interested in helping lead and participate in songfest to bring in their instrument of choice. We will train and nurture these instruments of prayer leading and hopefully create a culture of music that can be taken home and into the rest of the world.

We had another exciting day as we had Preschool through High School in the building this morning and we were hopping. The weather agreed and classes played outside and experienced nature and song in our outdoor sanctuary. Thank you for another magical morning, it is our journey together that truly praises God.

Be well,

Rabbi David Burstein

Spotlight on Temple Beth Or Religious School Kindergarten

Temple Beth Or Religious School Sunday, October 21, 2007We continued learning about Abraham and Sarah today. We learned about the visitors whom Abraham and Sarah welcomed, and about their surprising news. Even though Sarah was very old, she would have a baby! When Sarah hear this news, she laughed because she thought she was too old to have a baby. Sarah did have a baby the next year, and he was named Isaac, which means laughter.

  • We talked about God's promise to Abraham and Sarah earlier that Sarah would have a baby.
  • We talked about how we should treat visitors, and how Sarah and Abraham might have welcomed their visitors.
  • We learned how to make food that Sarah and Abraham might have served their visitors:
    • Israeli salad (chopped cucumbers and tomatoes)
    • Humus (spread made from chick peas)
  • We ate the salad and humus and other foods they might have served:
    • Olives
    • Pita Bread
  • We used dress up items from our Bible Box to become the characters in the story of Sarah and Abraham
  • We had a Baby Naming ceremony for Isaac.

Be The Light!

Temple Beth Or Religious School staff are indeed the light -- on every Sunday morning. What a remarkable group of colleagues, who genuinely care about each other and our students. Thank you to staff members and madrichim who flexibly change schedules when needed in another area. Special thanks to Jay and Rachel Weiss, Larry Frank, Brandon Rubinoff, Jessica Simspon who have helped with special scheduling needs in the last few weeks.

TBO Religious School staff ARE the light!
