Kindergarten ConsecrationOn Friday night our kindergarteners sang a special song called “This is very good!” That truly was the theme of this past weekend. Our consecration service keeps getting better and better each year. To have the privilege to stand in a circle and hold the Torah as it surrounds our 5 year olds is a holy moment in time.

The following morning our own Michael Nalepka read beautifully from the Torah and became a Bar Mitzvah.

And on Sunday, we gathered together as a congregation to celebrate our pets during our annual Pet Blessing Day. While being licked in the face for the 10th time and snuggling in blessing with your amazing animals I realized once more why I love this congregation. It is truly a place of genuine joy.

As I glanced over at Rabbi Chessin I saw how really special she and all of you have made Temple Beth Or for me and each other. I saw founding members talking and laughing with our 4 and 5 year olds. I saw my daughter Emma, who has worked incredibly hard to overcome her fear of dogs petting and hugging dog after dog. I am so proud of her. And I saw the love that you have for your pets. You all held and blessed them with compassion and kindness.

You were our blessings this weekend and I thank you. This weekend was very good.

Be well,

Rabbi David Burstein
