"The place to improve the world is first in one's own heart and head and hands."

-- Robert Pirsig: Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance

Is there a bracha to welcome a motorcycle? A day of song, joy, and Harleys at Temple Beth Or. The Sons of Israel motorcycle club arrived in number to help us sanctify our sukkah and show that yes, even Jewish boys and girls can grow up to ride a Harley. The Sons of Israel were on their first annual Sukkah to Sukkah ride and we sent them off with a bang, as we truly opened our doors to them. [click here for a video -- be patient, the video will take a few moments to load!]

Each Sunday, my staff and myself strive to create amazing memories for our children. Shaking a lulav next to a motorcycle will always rank high. As Pirsig wrote, we as teachers put our hearts, our heads and our hands into each Sunday. Our hope and prayer is that we improve each child’s world by our effort.

I also want to take this opportunity to thank Nora Rubinoff, our extraordinary administrator. She has been an incredible asset to the school and our team.

Be well,

Rabbi David Burstein

Be The Light!

It's not too late to help religious school student Adam Coy with his Bar Mitzvah Project. Here's a letter from Adam:

Dear Temple Beth Or Congregation,

My name is Adam Coy and my Bar Mitzvah project involves Standing Together. Standing Together is an organization that sends stuff to the soldiers on the Israeli border. It began by people sending pizzas but now, it includes, coffee, candy etc. I am collecting post cards with words of encouragement to mail to Standing Together. They will distribute them to the Israeli soldiers guarding the border. I will have these postcards at the High Holiday services. Please take a moment to write a few words of encouragement and I will mail them to Standing Together.

Thank You for Your Time,
Adam Coy

You may have seen Adam in the hallways during High Holy Days, promoting his project. If you're interested in helping Adam, drop your postcards or letters off in the religious school office. Thank you!

Thanks to the Michaelson Family for donating a bubble gum machine to benefit TBO's Building Fund.

Thank you to Jeff Gati for the wonderful photos he took during the September 23 religious school session. Thank you also to Elizabeth Burstein and Anita Wilson for their photography during Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. If you have not yet seen our photostream through Flickr, please give us a click at:
