September 23, 2007

Today I was feeling very emotional. It could be the post holiday lack of sleep and total exhaustion. I believe however it was something far deeper I watched my clergy colleagues sing and teach and lead with such spirit and was touched. And all of my teachers dragged in and made the day magic once again. And I began to open to that emotion.

We are truly a community of caring adults who see this school as a mission to impart positive Jewish memories. I was touched to watch Emma run to class excited by another day.

My day concluded with our high school juniors and seniors sharing a class with myself and Richard Bromberg, one of our most popular teachers from our past. 15 students who have committed to staying until graduation -- tackling issues of spirituality that challenge our adults. I was moved by these 17 and 18 year olds who have said that Judaism is important enough to be with us. Check on this link to see the article we worked from. These kids are so awesome!

I guess it is this place that gives me reason be open and emotional. Thank you all for being here.

Be well,

Rabbi David Burstein
