April 27 , 2008

I can’t believe it is already May. The year has gone by so rapidly and as I stood on the playground watching our students enjoy the weather, I was taken by how much they have grown this year.

They have grown both physically and Jewishly. I am in such awe of this process. I watch them all lead services with skill and confidence; work hard to achieve growth in the classroom; and become friends in the meanwhile.

I always struggle with the moniker "Religious school" that we are saddled with. I see this as a "Jewish Experience." Our teachers are guides on the journey and our students participants in a great adventure.

I feel honored to walk with them on such an experience.

Be well,

Rabbi David

Registration for the 2008-2009 school year at TBO begins this Sunday, May 4. We strongly encourage parents to register their children early for religious school. Look for our table in the Lobby. As always, feel free to stop by the Education office with any questions, or e-mail Nora Rubinoff at education@templebethor.com.

New Email Address for the Education Office

You may have noticed that the Temple Beth Or web site has had a little sprucing up over the past few weeks. Please mark your address books that messages to the education office should now be addressed to education [at] templebethor [dot] com. (Please note that to slow down those pesky spammers who scan web sites for e-mail addresses that we've purposely left out the normal punctuation you'd see in an e-mail address.) Thank you!

Spotlight on Grade 4

The students in 4th grade are continuing their life cycle study by discussing death and dying as part of the cycle of life. They will learn about the mourning process, the preparation and burial rites, and consoling the bereaved. Students will take home with them packets that they will share with their family to talk about death, as well as creating an ethical will.
