February 24 , 2008

As a child I never really liked Hebrew School. I went three days a week and was a regular in the principal's office. She was about 200 years old just a few years older than most of my teachers. It was not my favorite place to be.

I swore that if I was ever in charge that it would be different. And now it is. We have no teacher over 175 and each of them are amazing, vibrant, and fun.I am blessed to be in their presence and they have all really stepped up to help me and my family during this trying time. I have
great love and admiration for them and even greater thanks.

Our future is bright because of these wonderful men and women. And your children like religious school. The best of both worlds.

Be well,

Rabbi David

Spotlight on Grade 7

We reached the end of World War II, liberation, and the aftereffects in the last few weeks. This week we talked about Holocaust denial. We found out that “the right to freedom of speech does not open every avenue to one who desires to use a particular outlet for expression,” which means that no newspaper is required to print or promote something the editor chooses not to include! We thought critically and came up with just a few of the reasons that the Holocaust "revisionists" should not be believed.

We are looking forward to our field trips to Mapping our Tears on 3/2 and Brundibar on 3/9. Parents of 7th graders -- check your e-mail as well as the letter your students brought home today. Also parents -- we need at least 3 volunteer parent drivers for each of these trips. Please send an e-mail to Nora Rubinoff at norarubinoff@gmail.com or by calling her at 513-227-2450 if you can help. You may also download a copy of the field trip information letter and permission slip by clicking here.

A huge thanks to Eric Rubinoff, who worked valiantly to repair our sick photocopy machine this morning. Eric is truly a man with many skills!

Coming up...

3rd and 4th grade family service is March 14 at 7:30 pm. Plan on joining Temple Beth Or's 3rd and 4th grade students as they lead us in a Shabbat Service on Friday, March 14 at 7:30pm. In conjunction with the 4th grade mock wedding, they will also have an Aufruf. Not sure what an Aufruf is? Aufruf (meaning "call up" in Yiddish) is the ceremony in which the groom is called up (and sometimes also the bride) to recite a blessing over the Torah in the synagogue.

Mazel tov! Our Fourth Grade wedding is March 16, 2008 at 10:30 am. Click here to view the invitation, and please plan on joining us!
