January 13, 2008

Photo by Mike Brown, Loxwood Lane PhotographyThis morning, our school was filled with life -- singing, praying, laughing.

This morning, our school was filled with remembering -- from recounted stories by Ira Segalewitz to our seventh graders about his life as a child in the Holocaust, to second grade students who kneaded flour and water and yeast and fashioned them into challah just as our ancestors have done for ages, to fourth graders planning an upcoming mock wedding (mark your calendars for this simcha -- it's March 16).

John Lennon sang, "Life is what happens while you are busy making other plans." Sometimes that is indeed true. My personal thanks to the brave and talented Jay Weiss for valiantly trying to help revive our copy machine, who was feeling a bit under the weather today. Things may not always go according to plan (especially when a machine is involved!), but we are blessed to have so many wonderful and supportive people as a part of our religious school and congregational family ready to help lend a hand or be part of a solution.

Our halls are filled with joyful noise and happy students and staff. Wishing you a peaceful, happy and healthy week!

Be well,

Nora Rubinoff

Second Grade News

Dear Parents,

We are continuing our studies in Jerusalem this week - we arrived by our imaginary school bus last Sunday driving in from Safed. We are learning the demographics of this historic city, the Old City and the four quarters and the seven gates. We will be talking about the New City and everything that encompasses a vibrant life there, the rock concerts, the museums, the open markets and art.

We have concentrated our studies of basic Hebrew and are working on our blessings and prayers for Shabbat. Today we made challah and learned our shabbat blessings for Friday night. Please encourage your child to light the candles and recite the prayers this Shabbat over bread, wine and candles!

As always, have a safe and wonderful week. Your children are absolutely brilliant and a true joy to work with. Thank you for sharing them with us on Sunday mornings!

Shalom,

Angela Gruenberg

 “Every blade of grass
has its angel that bends
over it and whispers,
'Grow, grow.'”
